DESCRIPTION: Title: On the consequences of cognitive offloading (via AI) in
research \n\n Abstract: This seminar aims to show normatively and by way
of empirical research that cognitive offloading\, while making the researc
h process more ‘efficient'\, leads to an impoverished knowledge stock am
ong scholars\, a reduced capability to link theory and empirical observati
on\, and finally decreased capabilities to 'think about thinking’. The s
eminar is especially relevant for PhD students and ECR. \n\n Bio: Dirk Lin
debaum is Professor in Management and Organisation at the University of Ba
th School of Management (UK). He is curious about “values” as a meta-t
heme in his research\, particularly in relation to theory building\, learn
ing/education\, technology\, and emotions at work. His work regularly appe
ars in journals of international distinction\, such as the Academy of Mana
gement Review\, Academy of Management Learning &amp\; Education\, Journal
of Management Studies\, Organization Studies\, and Human Relations. In add
ition\, he is the author of the book Emancipation through Emotion Regulati
on (Edward Elgar\, 2017). Despite his theoretical pursuits\, the practical
relevance of his research is regularly recognized in news outlets\, such
as the Financial Times\, New York Times\, BBC Radio 5 Live\, Wirtschaftswo
 che\, Daily Mail\, Independent\, FORTUNE magazine\, and Bloomberg Business
Week. Furthermore\, he has published several practitioner-focused article
s in MIT Sloan Management Review\, one of which has been accepted into the
Honor Roll of the Responsible Research in Business and Management network
as an indication that his research serves the larger good. \n\n Note: Tea
/coffee and sandwiches will be served between 12 - 1 pm at the Lower Groun
d Floor. \n\n Photographs will be taken during this seminar and may be sha
red on social media. If you do not wish to appear\, please notify tbs.rese
