DESCRIPTION: Seminar Title: Industry-Engaged Research: A Collaborative Part
nership \n\n Abstract: Industry-engaged research plays a critical role in
strengthening the link between academia and practice in contemporary innov
ation ecosystems. Collaboration lies at the core of industry-engaged resea
rch\, facilitating the exchange of expertise\, resources\, and perspective
s\, and supporting the co-creation of knowledge that is both practically a
nd policy-relevant. Such engagement enhances the translation of research i
nto real-world applications and improves the alignment of research agendas
to address societal and economic needs. Industry-engaged research should
be viewed as a strategic policy mechanism for driving innovation\, improvi
ng research impact\, and building sustainable partnerships between univers
ities\, industry\, and the wider society. Yet many scholars and practition
ers struggle to cultivate such partnerships. This reflective presentation
draws on exemplar\nindustry-engaged collaborations to showcase different t
ypes of impact and lessons learned. \n\n Bio: Denis Dennehy is Professor
of Information Systems &amp\; Sustainability at the School of Management\
, Swansea University\, where he serves as School Research Lead. Drawing up
on industry-engaged research\, his work investigates the mediating influen
ce of information systems and analytics\, as well as their implications fo
r teams\, organisations\, and broader society. The significance of his ind
ustry-engaged research was recently recognised with the Association for In
formation Systems (AIS) Impact Award (2025)\, an international award for i
nformation systems research that demonstrates tangible impact on business
practices and societal advancement. He has worked on multi-year industry-o
riented projects funded by the UKRI\, Welsh Government\, Enterprise Irel
and\, Science Foundation Ireland\, Erasmus+ and Irish Aid. \n\n His resear
ch has been published in journals such as the Information Systems Journal\
, International Journal of Operations Management\, European Journal of Ope
rations Research\, Information &amp\; Management\, Information Systems Fro
ntiers\, Journal of Business Logistics\, and practitioner outlets such as
Harvard Business Review\, Cutter Business Technology Journal\, and IEEE. \
n\n He is co-editor-in-chief of the Communications of the Association for
Information Systems and has guest-edited many special issues in his field.
He is a Distinguished Member – Cum Laude of the AIS\, and recipient of
the AIS Sandra Slaughter Service Award (2023). He is a member of the Chart
ered ABS Research Committee\, Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academ
y (SFHEA)\, and Senior Member of IEEE. Prior to joining academia\, he work
ed in Kenya for several years with local and international NGOs. \n\n Phot
ographs will be taken during this seminar and may be shared on social medi
