DESCRIPTION: Title: Is Money in Index Funds Smart? \n\n Abstract: Passive f
unds with inflows generate positive risk-adjusted returns during the\nsubs
equent year and outperform funds with outflows\, consistent with the\nnoti
on that index fund money is “smart.” Similar outperformance during the
\nnext year is not present in active funds seeing higher inflows. Passive\
nfunds that outperform see high inflows even though their performance does
\nnot persist after accounting for size\, value\, and momentum. These find
ings\nsuggest that the “smart money” effect in passive funds reflects
genuine\ninvestor ability\, where unexpected flows outperform\, and is not
driven by\nthe expected flows associated with naïve trend chasing or by
price\npressure effects. \n\n Bio: Badrinath Kottimukkalur is an Assistant
