DESCRIPTION: Welcome to the meetup for those who are currently (or soon to
 be) leading and managing technical teams! \n\n ⏰ Schedule \n\n \n 6:00pm
  - Arrival\, refreshments\, networking \n 6:45pm - Welcome \n 7:00pm - Ale
 xandra Millatmal \n 7:30pm - Andy Lister \n 7:45pm - Networking \n 8:30pm
 - Close \n \n\n 🌟 Speakers \n\n Host: Jason Wong (Leadership and D&amp\
;I Consultant) \n\n Speaker: Alexandra Millatmal (Web Application Develope
r\, Newsela) \n\n Talk: Mentoring the way to a diverse and inclusive workp
lace \n\n Do you work at a company that is “difficult for juniors”? Do
you care about diversity and inclusion of under-represented groups at you
r workplace? Do you ever stay awake at night with the gnawing feeling that
these two ideas are somehow incompatible\, but can’t put a finger on wh
y or explain to your company how? \n\n So often\, the endeavors of hiring
and mentoring junior engineers and of bolstering diversity and inclusion e
fforts are seen as “nice to haves” at best and “extraneous” (or ev
en “impossible”!) at worst. But in reality\, building diversity\, incl
usivity\, and strong ability to incorporate and mentor junior engineers go
hand-in-hand\, and engineering teams might do well to begin thinking of e
ach of these efforts in service of the other. \n\n Together\, we’ll arti
culate the intersections between on-boarding and leveling-up junior engine
ers and building a diverse and welcoming team\, and learn low-cost tactics
for incorporating mentorship and D&amp\;I processes at your place of work
. \n\n Speaker: Andy Lister (Director of Product Engineering\, Greenhouse)
\n\n Talk: Refactoring an R&amp\;D Team \n\n At the start of the year\, t
he Greenhouse Product Engineering team went through a major restructuring
that aligned engineers\, designers\, and product managers more closely wit
h the specific problems — and more importantly\, the specific people —
they’re most focused on helping. In this talk\, Andy Lister\, Director
of Engineering will share the history of their team structure\, the impetu
 s for change\, and the radical shifts they’ve seen as a result. \n\n \n\
n The Lead Developer is an international series of conferences and meetups

ncisco. Find out more and check out 100+ talk videos on imposter syndrome\
