DESCRIPTION: On Jan 10\, join ~150 devs at SF Python's presentation night a
nd learn more about Python 3. Our generous sponsor Yelp will also provide
pizza and beer for the evening. \n\n We have time for more lightning or s
hort talks. Please submit your talk ideas here. \n\n PROGRAM \n\n Lightnin
g talks \n\n About going Open-Source by Tim Grossmann \n\n Promoting Sex
Worker Led Health Initiatives with Python by Dennison Williams \n\n Tonigh
t we won't be talking about caching by Yann Kaiser \n\n Short talk(~10 min
 s + Q&amp\;A) \n\n Migrating Python.org to Buildbot 9 and Python 3 by Crai
g Rodrigues \n\n When developers make changes to core CPython\, a set of s
cripts which builds the core Python code and runs tests on Linux\, Windows
\, FreeBSD\, and other platforms happens. These scripts run under a frame
 work called Buildbot ( https://buildbot.net ). \n\n For quite some time\,
Python was using an older version of Buildbot which only ran under Python
 2. \n\n This talk will cover my efforts to port the Buildbot to Python 3\,
and how I worked with the Python Buildbot team to help them upgrade their
buildbot cluster at ( http://buildbot.python.org/all/ ) so that they use
Buildbot running under Python 3. \n\n Bio:\nCraig Rodrigues is a software
engineer who currently works as a QA automation engineer at an analytics s
tartup. Originally from Toronto\, Canada\, Craig lived in Boston for many
years before settling in the Bay Area 10 years ago. Craig is an avid open
source contributor\, and has contributed to such projects as Twisted\, Bu
ildbot and FreeBSD. Craig is passionate about using automation (especially
with Python) to improve efficiency and build better software. \n\n Main t
 alk (~30 mins + Q&amp\;A) \n\n Python 3 at Lyft \n\n Lyft is a big fan of
Python. It’s quite common for services to utilize NumPy\, Pandas\, and P
uLP to serve requests via Flask\, Gevent\, and Gunicorn. We use SciPy to f
ight fraud\, we use Salt to provision hosts. We’ve got hundreds of Pytho
n microservices totalling millions of lines of code and like most companie
s we were faced with a decision about what to do with Python 2. Do we push
forward with the upgrade to Python 3 or do we explore re-writing in other
languages? Lyft has been successfully migrating services over to Python 3
for the past 5 months. We've gotten the process of upgrading down to arou
nd a week worth of work per service through improvements in static analysi
s and building groundswell of support. In this talk we'll be sharing how w
e accomplished that and how you can use these same tools to make getting t
o Python 3 easy! \n\n Bio \n\n Roy Williams is a Software Engineer at Lyf
t focused on ensuring Lyft engineers are the most productive in the indust
ry\, most recently focused on improving their Python stack through upgradi
ng to Python 3\, adopting MyPy\, and improving the performance of some of
their core primitives. Roy is a contributor to PyLint\, MyPy and python-mo
dernize. Prior to Lyft Roy has worked at Facebook\, Google\, and Microsoft
 . \n\n AGENDA: \n\n 6:00p - Check-in and mingle\, with food provided by ou
 r generous sponsor Yelp! \n\n 7:05p - Welcome \n\n 7:30p - Door close \n\n
  7:10p - Announcements\, lightning talks and main talk \n\n 8:30p - More m
ingling \n\n 9:30p - Hard stop \n\n SF Python is run by volunteers aiming
to foster the Python community in the Bay Area. Please consider making a d
onation to SF Python and saying a big thank you to Yelp for providing pizz
a\, beer\, and the venue for this Wednesday's meetup. \n\n Yelp sees 89 mi
llion mobile users and 79 million desktop users every month. Keeping every
thing running smoothly requires the best and brightest in the industry. Th
eir engineers come from diverse technical backgrounds and value digital cr
aftsmanship\, open-source\, and creative problem-solving. They write test
s\, review code\, and push multiple times a day. Come out and talk to the
 m. \n
