DESCRIPTION: On Feb 8\, join 150+ Pythonista and get ready to upgrade your
data skills. \n\n Our generous sponsor Affirm will provide food and beve
 rages. RSVP closes at 1p Feb 8. \n\n Agenda: \n\n 6:00p - Check-in an
d mingle\, with food provided by our generous sponsor Affirm! \n7:05p - We
 lcome \n7:10p - Talk #1 and Q&amp\;A \n7:35p - Talk #2 and Q&amp\;A \n8:00
p - Announcements\, "7th Inning Stretch" and a Ligtning Talk on "Python to
ols for physiological data analysis" by Watson Xi\n8:10p - Talk #3 and Q&a
 mp\;A \n8:50p - More mingling \n9:30p - Doors close \n\n Main Talk #1: Im
mutable Database Modeling in Python by Alex Favaro \n\n ABSTRACT \n\n Immu
tability in database models has a number of potential benefits\, especiall
y in financial systems\, including transactional change logging\, improved
debuggability and auditability\, and builtin support for history dependen
t business logic. In this talk we’ll consider some approaches to incorpo
rating immutability into database models\, discuss design tradeoffs\, and
propose a pattern for designing relational data models that leverage immut
ability. Finally\, we’ll review an explicit but non-intrusive implementa
tion of this pattern written in Python using SQLAlchemy. \n\n BIO \n\n Ale
x Favaro is an engineering manager at Affirm where he leads a team respons
ible for new product initiatives. He earned his B.S. in Computer Science f
rom Stanford in 2012 and has worked at a variety of companies in Silicon V
alley\, including a 3 person startup and Google. His current interests lie
at the intersection of FinTech\, consumer lending\, and personal finance.
\n\n Main Talk #2: TextRank in Python by Paco Nathan \n\n ABSTRACT \n\n
PyTextRank is a pure Python open source implementation of TextRank\, based
on this 2004 paper -- a graph algorithm which produces ranked keyphrases
from texts. Keyphrases are generally more useful than simple keyword extra
ction. PyTextRank integrates use of TextBlob and SpaCy for NLP analysis of
texts\, including full parse\, named entity extraction\, etc. It also pro
duces auto-summarization of texts\, making use of an approximation algorit
hm\, MinHash\, for better performance at scale. Overall\, the package is
intended to complement machine learning approaches -- specifically deep le
arning used for custom search and recommendations -- by developing better
feature vectors from raw texts. This package is in production use at O'Rei
lly Media for text analytics. \n\n BIO \n\n Paco is the Director of the Le
arning Group at O'Reilly Media and an advisor for Amplify Partners -- with
30+ years tech industry experience\, ranging from Bell Labs to early-stag
 e start-ups. Known as a "player/coach" Data Scientist\, with core expertis
 e in machine learning\, distributed systems\, functional programming\, clo
ud computing. Cited in 2015 as one of the Top 30 People in Big Data and An
alytics by Innovation Enterprise. \n\n Main Talk #3: Advanced data enginee
ring patterns using Apache Airflow by Maxime Beauchemin \n\n ABSTRACT \n\
n Analysis automation and analytic services is the future of data engineer
ing! Apache Airflow's DSL makes it natural to build complex DAGs of tasks
dynamically\, and Airbnb has been leveraging this feature in intricate way
s\, creating a wide array of services as dynamic workflows. In this talk\,
we'll explain the mechanics of dynamic pipeline generation using Apache A
irflow\, and present advanced use cases that have been developed at Airbnb
. \n\n BIO \n\n Maxime Beauchemin works at Airbnb as part of the Data To
ols team\, developing open source products that reduce friction to help ge
nerate insight from data. He is the creator and a leading maintainer of Ap
ache Airflow incubating (a workflow engine) and Caravel (a data visualizat
ion platform). Before Airbnb\, Maxime worked at Facebook on computation fr
ameworks around engagement and growth analytics\, at Yahoo\; on social pro
perties analytics\, and at Ubisoft as a data warehouse architect. \n\n SF
Python is run by volunteers aiming to foster the Python Community in the
bay area. Please consider making a donation to SF Python and saying a big
thank you to Affirm for providing food\, non-alcoholic drinks\, and the ve
nue for this Wed's meetup. \n\n Our Feb sponsor Affirm is a next-generatio
n consumer finance company providing shoppers with instant point-of-sale f
inancing for online purchases. Started by PayPal co-founder Max Levchin\,
Affirm’s data-driven approach looks beyond a standard credit score to re
ach broader consumer populations. We are using modern technology to re-ima
gine and re-build core components of financial infrastructure from the gro
und up. We’re focusing on improving the lives of everyday consumers with
less expensive\, more transparent financial products. \n
