DESCRIPTION: Virtual worlds are rapidly evolving from experimental entertai
nment spaces into persistent socio-technical infrastructures spanning heal
thcare\, education\, industry\, and public services. This transition prese
nts a unique regulatory convergence\, simultaneously invoking rules on dat
 a protection\, artificial intelligence\, cybersecurity\, digital identity\
, and intellectual property. Traditional regulation is often too slow and
fragmented to address these hybrid environments without either stifling in
novation or failing to protect fundamental rights. \n\n This webinar\, ho
sted by the EU-funded OPENVERSE project\, builds upon the recently publish
ed OPENVERSE policy brief\, "Regulatory Sandboxes for Virtual Worlds Innov
ation"\, to discuss on the potential of controlled\, evidence-generating t
esting environments to help Europe build a trustworthy\, inclusive\, and c
ompetitive OPENVERSE. \n\n Core Objectives \n\n \n Explore Experimental Go
vernance: Discuss how regulatory sandboxes provide a supervised environmen
t for innovators to test technologies and business models while generating
real-world evidence for future EU legislation. \n Showcase the OPENVERSE
Observatory: Provide insights into the OPENVERSE Observatory's curated co
llection of international regulatory sandbox case studies. \n Bridge the
Local and the European: Understand how municipalities and academic institu
tions interface with virtual world sandboxes to foster human-centric urban
innovation and local digital ecosystems. \n Bridge the Real and the Virtu
al: Explain how it could be possible to model the evolution of European ci
ty cultures through advanced Digital Twins. \n Introduce the concept of Vi
rtual Innovation Districts: Examine EABID's proposal to leverage existing
knowledge to create a "Virtual Innovation District": a pan-European orches
tration layer that simplifies cross-border scaling for micro-enterprises a
 nd startups. \n \n
