 ——————— \n\n 🗣️Kannupriya Kalra: Anatomy of Scaladex \n
\n In this talk\, I will introduce you to Scaladex\, an exciting project I
began exploring in November 2023. Scaladex represents my first foray into
open source contributions\, and it has fueled my passion for Scala ever s
ince. I will provide a comprehensive demo of Scaladex\, delve into the int
ricacies behind the application\, and share my experiences working on it.
Additionally\, I'll highlight my role as a Google Summer of Code 2024 ment
or with Scala Center\, where I am contributing to two Scaladex-related pro
jects: "Scaladex: New Artifact Page" and "Scaladex: Displaying Information
from POM Files". This session aims to inspire you to consider Scaladex or
other projects from Scala Center as your next open source endeavor. Join
me to discover the potential and impact of contributing to the Scala commu
nity through Scaladex. \n\n ⭐ Speaker ⭐ \n\n Kannupriya Kalra is a fun
ctional programming enthusiast and Scala developer with 9 years of experie
nce in building scalable software solutions. Currently a Software Engineer
at Sky in London\, she develops and maintains critical backend applicatio
ns using functional Scala. She has previously contributed to Scala project
s in various organizations in India\, focusing on data engineering. Her ex
pertise includes Scala\, Akka\, and big data technologies. As a Google Sum
mer of Code 2024 mentor with Scala Center\, she contributes to Scaladex an
d Scala CLI projects. Learn about her on LinkedIn. \n\n 🗣️Nicolas Rin
audo: The debatably Free monad \n\n Free is something I've wanted to un
derstand for quite a while\, but could never quite figure it out. I’d es
sentially given up on it until a friend of mine\, known to be particularly
fond of pithy statements\, told me `Free` is merely the defunctionalisati
on of Monad in its most uncomfortable configuration. He didn’t add what
’s the problem? but it was clearly implied. \n\n The odd thing though is
that after playing with this for a bit\, it turned out to be exactly what
I needed to hear to get me unstuck. \n\n This talk is my slightly expande
d version of that statement\, and should hopefully understand what  F
ree  is\, what purpose it serves and where it came from. \n\n ⭐ Spe
aker ⭐ \n\n Nicolas writes code for JPMorgan\, where we use Scala to mak
e some very complicated things seem very simple. \n\n After too many years
as a Java programmer and a thankfully brief stint in marketing\, Nicolas
discovered Functional Programming through Scala and fell in love. Since th
en\, he's made it his mission to learn and explain the scary bits\, by foc
using on practical applications. \n\n Nicolas is also the author and sole
 maintainer of a few useful OSS libraries\, such as kantan.csv. \n\n ——
