DESCRIPTION: Managing an effective design system requires that it fit smoot
hly into how an organization makes and delivers digital experiences. Yet\,
it must also embrace unique and usually more robust processes to deliver
high-quality foundations\, components\, and other features that other team
s trust to reuse. \n\n A design system can be seen as both a product consu
med by other teams as well as a platform for organizations to make and sha
re decisions and features. As such\, system leaders and contributors must
know how to approach making\, maintaining\, and promoting the system acros
s an enterprise for it to be successful. \n\n This workshop exposes you to
scope\, plan and run processes to make features\, deliver releases\, tack
le complex initiatives\, and guide an organization through a major new gen
eration of an entire library. These processes create the foundation by whi
ch a system can pursue its vision\, realize its strategy\, evolve teams an
d practices\, and create lasting value for an organization. \n\n Over the
course of two days\, we’ll cover techniques and nuances of these process
es across different shapes and sizes of systems so that designers and deve
 lopers can make a robust\, high-quality system together. \n\n \n\n In Th
is Workshop\, You'll Learn: \n\n Sessions will engage participants in hand
s-on activities\, spark new ideas\, and moderate challenging conversations
so your team can deliver:\n \n* Features like UI components made by desig
ners and developers\n* Regular\, incremental releases with predictable com
 munications\n* Generations of a complete library\, launched with fanfare\n
 * Special initiatives to grow and evolve practices\, support and infrastru
 cture \n\n Through these concepts\, we’ll dig into considerations of a s
ystem’s:\n \n* Vision and mission\n* Team and community models\n* Commun
ications and messaging\n* Support channels for users and contributors\n* S
uccess measurements \n\n \n\n Why You Should Attend \n\n This workshop l
ays a foundation and challenges you to consider if your system program is
robust\, flexible\, and inclusive enough. We’ll explore the processes th
at matter most – processes to start a system\, define big bets\, develop
each feature\, and release and communicate changes – and when to invest
in each to build a successful program. Participants will explore many mod
els\, imagine new processes\, share their own experiences\, and inspire ea
ch other. \n\n Nathan has contributed to or consulted with over 60 design
systems over his career\, including leading teams through major releases a
 t Morningstar\, Verizon\, Capital One\, Target\, Fidelity\, Marriott and m
any more. He’ll combine deep knowledge with a nuanced understanding of h
ow systems work in companies of varying scale\, business types\, and organ
ization models. \n\n \n\n Who Should Attend \n\n Design systems are best
as a multidisciplinary pursuit. Therefore\, the workshop is aimed at desi
gners\, engineers\, product owners\, managers\, and leaders setting up or
optimizing how to operate a design system at scale. \n\n The workshop assu
mes participants are familiar with design systems fundamentals: what they
are\, what they offer\, who makes and uses them\, and why they matter. Mat
erials are relevant to anyone planning to engage a community\, decide what
  to build\, and grow a system over time. \n\n \n\n What Hardware/Softwar
e Do You Need? \n\n To get the most out of the workshop\, you’ll need ac
cess to Zoom (for audio\, video and screen sharing)\, Figjam (for hands-on
activities)\, and Slack (using a private channel for workshop communicati
ons). You will not use design tools (such as in Figma or Sketch) or code i
n a code editor. Instead\, activities will be collaborative in a team or f
ull classroom setting using Figjam. \n\n \n\n About Nathan \n\n Nathan c
o-founded EightShapes with Dan Brown in 2006. He’s passionate about info
rmation architecture\, UX\, front-end dev\, and leads design systems consu
lting at EightShapes. He wrote Modular Web Design in 2009\, blogs frequent
ly on Medium.com\, created the EightShapes Specs Figma plugin and speaks a
 t events worldwide. \n\n \n\n Time &amp\; Schedule \n\n This workshop is
split over two days. \nThe workshop sessions will run on the following da
 ys: \n\n Monday\, June 10th\, 12noon - 4PM ET - 6PM - 10 PM CEST \nTuesda
