DESCRIPTION: Doors 7:30pm/Music 8:00pm \n\n Exploring the most lyrical of h
is music over years of composition\, Grammy-award-winning pianist and mult
i-instrumentalist Francesco Turrisi comes to The Cooler with an evening of
richly melodic piano trio music\, in collaboration with drummer Matthew J
ackson and bassist Derek Whyte. \n\n Defined a “musical alchemist” and
a “musical polyglot”\, by the press\, Francesco Turrisi is equally at
home playing with jazz veterans Dave Liebman and Bill Frisell as he is wi
th Irish traditional sean-nós singer Roisin El Safty and with tarantella
specialist Lucilla Galeazzi. \n\n Turrisi has toured with Bobby McFerrin\,
played baroque operas with ensemble L'Arpeggiata\, toured with The Silk R
oad ensemble\, interpreted the music of Steve Reich with Bang on a Can All
Stars\, accompanied flamenco star Pepe El Habichuela and Greek singer Sav
ina Yannatou. \n\n He has released five critically acclaimed albums as a l
eader and two as co-leader (“Tarab” a cross boundary innovative ensemb
le that blends Irish and Mediterranean traditional music\, and “Zahr”
a project that looks at connections between southern Italian traditional m
usic and Arabic music). \n\n His latest piano solo album “Northern Migra
tions” was described as “delicate\, wistful and wholly engrossing” b
y the Irish Times. \n\n Since 2018 he collaborates with American grammy aw
ard winning singer and multi-instrumentalist Rhiannon Giddens\, on a duo p
roject that seamlessly combines music from the Mediterranean with music fr
om the African diaspora in the Americas. In 2019 Giddens and Turrisi relea
sed their critically acclaimed duo album “there is no Other”. The albu
m single “I’m on my way” was nominated for a 2020 Grammy Award. Thei
r 2021 second duo album “They’re calling me home” was nominated for
two Grammy awards and won as best folk album at the 2022 Grammy awards. \n
