DESCRIPTION: Every so often a truly groundbreaking idea comes along. This i
s one. \nMindset explains:\nWhy brains and talent don’t bring success
\n\n Mindset is a simple idea discovered by world-renowned Stanford Univer
sity psychologist Carol Dweck in decades of research on achievement and su
ccess—a simple idea that makes all the difference. Training towards a gr
owth mindset creates motivation and productivity in the worlds of business
 \, education\, and sports \n\n \n\n A large part of Dweck's research on
mindsets has been done in the field of education\, and how these mindsets
affect a student's performance in the classroom. In particular\, an indivi
dual's mindset impacts how they face and cope with challenges\, such as th
e transition into senior school .\nAccording to Dweck\, individuals with a
"growth" theory are more likely to continue working hard despite setbacks
. For example\, children given praise such as "good job\, you're very smar
t" are much more likely to develop a fixed mindset\, whereas if given comp
liments like "good job\, you worked very hard" they are likely to develop
a growth mindset. \n\n While elements of our personality – such as sen
sitivity to mistakes and setbacks – can make us predisposed towards hold
ing a certain mindset\, we are able to develop and reshape our mindset thr
ough our interactions. In multiple studies\, Carol Dweck and her colleague
s noted that alterations in mindset could be achieved through school stude
nts “that every time they try hard and learn something new\, their brain
forms new connections that\, over time\, make them smarter”. These stud
ies all demonstrate how framing and discussing students’ work and effort
play a considerable role in the type of mindset students develop and stud
ents’ conceptions of their own ability.\nDweck’s research and theory o
f growth and fixed mindsets has been useful in intervention strategies wit
h at risk students\, dispelling negative stereotypes in education held by
teachers and students\, understanding the impacts of self-theories on resi
lience\, and understanding how process praise can foster a growth mindset
and positively impact students’ motivation levels. \n\n \n\n Why the
Growth Mindset?\nWhen students have a growth mindset\, they understand tha
t intelligence can be developed. Students focus on improvement instead of
worrying about how smart they are. They work hard to learn more and get sm
arter. Based on years of research by Stanford University’s Dr. Dweck\, L
isa Blackwell Ph.D.\, and their colleagues\, we know that students who lea
rn this mindset show greater motivation in school\, better grades\, and hi
gher test scores. \n\n This one day intensive programme explores how brai
ns and talent can actually can stand in the way of achieving success. \nW
hy praising brains and talent doesn’t foster self-esteem and accomplishm
ent\, but jeopardizes them\nHow training students about a simple idea abou
t the brain raises grades and productivity \n\n Mindset is an incredible s
imple idea discovered by world-renowned Stanford University psychologist C
arol Dweck in decades of research on achievement and success—a simple id
ea that makes all the difference. \n\n We look forward to your school enga
ging in this unique programme that delivers real competitive advantage\, f
or your students in their careers and your school as a world class institu
 tion. \n\n [youtube:aQ0VQjKU8og] \n
