DESCRIPTION: Join us for the September 2026 Dundee Data Meetup \n\n You're
invited to the August 2026 edition of the Dundee Data Meetup! \n\n Whether
  you're a data practitioner\, a student\, or simply interested in how data
shapes our world\, come along and be part of our growing community! \n\n
Speakers and Topics \n\n AI Agents: From Perception to Autonomous Action \
n\n Recent advances in foundation models have given rise to AI agents capa
ble of reasoning\, planning\, and acting autonomously across complex tasks
. This talk explores the shift from static\, single-purpose deep learning
models towards agentic systems that combine perception\, multi-modal under
standing\, and decision-making to operate independently in real-world envi
ronments. Drawing on examples from natural language processing and beyond\
, we examine the opportunities of building AI agents that are capable of c
arrying out complex multi-step tasks. \n\n Speaker Bios \n\n Steven Wallac
e\, PhD Researcher at the University of Aberdeen \n\n Steven Wallace is a
PhD researcher at the University of Aberdeen working on deep learning foun
dation models for semantic segmentation in climate change analysis. With a
background spanning energy consultancy\, electronic engineering\, and AI\
, he has built systems ranging from explainable heart disease classifiers
to real-time surveillance object detection\, and has taught and guest-lect
ured on deep learning and image segmentation at Aberdeen. Beyond computer
vision\, his research interests extend to multi-modal learning and AI agen
