DESCRIPTION: With Java 8 EE taking way longer to release than first expecte
d\, it seemed like Java 9 EE could have been some time off\, and since the
re were many companies in Dublin using Java 7\, their engineers were inter
ested in our first DubJUG event of 2018\, which saw Senior Java EE Enginee
r Roberto Cortez from the Seattle-based startup Tomitribe talk about how J
ava EE 7 meets Java 8\, and clustering MicroProfile applications using CDI
  and JCache. \n\n Roberto presented...\n \n\n Java EE 7 Meets Java 8 \n\n
and \n\n Cluster your MicroProfile Application using CDI and JCache \n\n
 Doors Open 18:15 (evening session) \n\n .\n. \n\n About Roberto Cortez \n\
n Robert was born in Venezuela\, but has spent most of his life in Coimbra
\, Portugal. With a degree in Informatics Engineering (equivalent to the B
ologna Master’s degree) from the Department of Informatics Engineering o
f the University of Coimbra\, he has been working as a Java Developer for
10 years in business areas like Finance\, Insurance and Government. \n\n R
oberto works with many Java based technologies like JavaEE\, Spring\, Hibe
rnate\, GWT\, JBoss AS and Maven just to name a few\, always relying on In
telliJ IDEA\, which he says is his favourite IDE. \n\n As a Freelancer / I
ndependent Contractor he travels the world to customers\, but also to spea
k at Java conferences. The direct contact with the Java community made him
want to become an active member in the community itself. For that reason\
, he created the Coimbra Java User Group\, and started to contribute to Op
en Source on Github so he can share some of the knowledge that he has gain
ed over the years. \n\n After working for a few major corporations\, he be
came eager to help and grow something from the ground up\, so currently wo
rks with Seattle based start-up Tomitribe which focus on developing and su
pporting TomEE\, a Java Application server based on Tomcat with Java EE su
pport. \n\n Follow Roberto on twitter at @radcortez \n\n .\n. \n\n Java EE
7 Meets Java 8 \n\n The last few years have been pretty exciting for Java
with new versions of EE and SE platforms. \n\n Java EE\, introduced a new
API to build WebSockets\; a new API to parse\, process and generate JSON\
; a new Client API in JAX-RS to invoke REST services\, and finally the Bat
ch Processing API to build batch applications. \n\n Java SE brought us the
long awaited Lambda expressions\; the powerful Streams API to perform ope
rations like filtering\, mapping or sorting in a very easy and fluent way\
, and a brand new Date Time API\, to deal with the complexities of Timezon
es and Periods. \n\n This session will combine all of these elements toget
her and show you how to easily develop an application using Java SE 8 with
Java EE 7\, with live coding and samples. \n\n .\n. \n\n Cluster your Mic
roProfile Application using CDI and JCache \n\n Microprofile is a new plat
form definition that optimizes Enterprise Java for a Microservices Archite
cture and delivers application portability across multiple runtimes. You c
an use a subset of the Java EE specifications to develop Microprofile appl
ications\, with JAX-RS\, CDI and JSON-P. Now you need to make it highly av
ailable and scalable across a large number of machines. \n\n The session w
ill feature a live coding demo where we will turn this Microprofile applic
ation\, into a fully clustered application using only standard Java API’
 s. Finally\, to show you how light it is\, we will run the entire cluster
in a set up of Raspberry PI’s. \n\n REGISTRATION NOTES \n\n The Dublin J
ava User Group meetups are designed to enhance the knowledge of developers
