DESCRIPTION: \n\n Mapping Historical Boundaries in the Digital Age \n\n by
Scott Lloyd \n\n \n\n Medieval Wales was divided into kingdoms\, cantrefs
and commotes\, as well as parishes\, townships\, and manors. These boundar
ies have changed over time and this process can be understood through the
skilful use of maps\, charters\, land grants\, perambulations and landscap
e archaeology\, exploiting the vast archives available for the study of We
lsh history. Digital techniques can allow us to accurately map these bound
aries and their changes in more detail than ever before. This talk will di
scuss how we go about this process and some of the many complexities invol
ved! \n\n This research forms a major part of the Deep Mapping Estate Arch
ives project\, funded by the AHRC\, led by the Institute for the Study of
Welsh Estates at Bangor University and in partnership with the Royal Commi
ssion and Aberystwyth University\, National Library of Wales\, and the Nor
 th East Wales Archives. \n\n 13 January\, 2022\, 5pm \n\n This free lectur
e will be delivered via Zoom and the invitation will be sent to you once y
ou have booked your place. Please don’t forget to download Zoom if you h
aven’t already! \n\n Tickets will be limited and must be booked in advan
ce. \n\n Please reserve one ticket per household. \n\n \n\n During 2022 we
will be holding special events and regular presentations on our current r
esearch projects. All are welcome to these free online events. All talks
will be recorded\, becoming available in due course on the Royal Commissi
 on’s YouTube channel. \n\n \n
