DESCRIPTION: A 3-hour hands-on workshop introducing the Soniphorm Smart Con
 tact Mic — a small programmable PCB that turns everyday surfaces and obj
 ects into instruments and recording devices. We'll explore how contact mic
 s reveal hidden sounds in the world around us\, work with the SCM to captu
 re\, shape and respond to vibration\, and build short experimental pieces 
 from what we find. No prior experience with electronics or sound design ne
 eded. \n\n Smart Contact Mics will be provided for the duration of the wor
 kshop. Participants should bring a laptop with the Chrome browser (or an A
 ndroid phone) and wired headphones. Places are limited. \n\n This workshop
  is hosted by the Centre for Creative Technologies @ University of Galway.
  \n\n Instructor Bio \n\n  \nEd Devane is a sound artist\, instrument buil
 der and educator based in Gweedore\, Co. Donegal. Through his studio Sonip
 horm\, he develops accessible tools and workshops that bring creative elec
 tronics and experimental sound into classrooms\, galleries and community s
 paces. He has delivered STEAM workshops at NCAD\, University of Limerick\,
  LSAD\, Trinity College Dublin and Science Gallery Dublin. \n
