DESCRIPTION: Unlocking Potential: The Value of Good Open Data - Robert Swie
rgon and David David Lecore (NSTA) \n\n The North Sea Transition Authority
(NSTA) Data Compliance Team ensures that vital data relating to the North
Sea's energy transition whether from traditional oil and gas operations o
r emerging renewable energy projects are managed and reported in accordanc
e with the current regulatory reported regimes. \n\n The presentation will
cover a range of topics including.\n \n* The foundations of data retentio
n\, reporting &amp\; disclosure and why enforcing good data quality standa
rds during the retention &amp\; reporting process improves publicly availa
ble data.\n* A brief history of data ‘release’ and how data availabili
ty has changed over time.\n* How the NSTA have been identifying inconsiste
ncies in previously reported data and the use of analytic tools to bring t
o life large data sets.\n* How we have implemented a wide range of correct
ions across multiple datasets improving the quality of publicly available
data\, collaborating with Industry to achieve this.\n* How we have created
a step change in the reporting of digital data for Oil &amp\; Gas wellbor
es\, with a specific focus on Abandonment data in the last 4 years pre-pla
nning for a Carbon Storage industry.\n* How the Data Compliance Team work
in conjunction with the (National Data Repository) NDR team to improve dat
a reporting across the UKCS.\n* How the Data Compliance Team work in conju
nction with the NSTA GIS team to ensure the data publicly disclosed is of
 the highest standards. \n* What’s Next? \n\n \nBios \n\n Robert Swiergo
n – Senior Technical Data Manager – BSC Hons in Geology &amp\; Petrole
um Geology from the University of Aberdeen (2009-2013) \, After university
he started working for a subsurface data management company working for t
heir clients across the globe. In 2018 he helped the then (Oil &amp\; Gas
Authority) OGA with a project to align their data with industry for the la
unch of the NDR. In 2019 he began his current role with the NSTA. \n\n Dav
id Lecore - David is Head of Data Services and Compliance at the North Sea
Transition Authority (NSTA). \n\n The NSTA license\, regulate and influen
ce the UK oil and gas\, offshore hydrogen\, and carbon storage industries.
NSTA support UK energy security\, drive emissions reduction from UK suppl
ies\, and help accelerate the transition to net zero to realise the potent
ial of the North Sea as an integrated energy basin. \n\n David’s NSTA ro
le involves ensuring data is reported in a compliant manner\, which in tur
n allows that data to be subsequently disclosed\, so that anyone can reali
se the value it holds. \n\n The NSTA’s data compliance focus is not just
on current data\, but legacy data acquired or created decades ago. The da
ta types now commonly reported are also expanding: Seismic\, per well per
day production data and infrastructure data have all commenced active repo
rting and disclosure during David’s tenure. \n\n One of David’s curren
t focuses is assisting DESNZ in finalising the carbon dioxide storage info
rmation and samples related legalisation\, in the 2023 Energy Act\, to ens
ure that carbon storage licence related information will be retained\, rep
orted and subsequently disclosed. \n\n David has worked in the oil industr
y since 1985\, initially for UK major oil companies\, moving into a major
oilfield services company in 1997\, then to the NSTA in 2016 \n\n --------
 ------------------------------------------------------------ \n\n \nThis
event is organised by a charity - Code The City. \n\n CTC suggests a small
donation to help with charity admin costs\, but if this is a barrier plea
se just change the ticket price to what you can afford. If that is still a
barrier\, just ask for a free ticket. \n\n We are now established in our
new premises\, which is still a work in progress. That means that our disa
bility access is not what we want it to be. If you are uncomfortable with\
, or unable to use stairs\, please book an online ticket for the Zoom sess
ion. We are working to improve this but it will take a few months. \n\n If
you select a physical ticket and it happens that we cannot meet physicall
y you will have to attend the Zoom session. \n\n Those attending the physi
cal space meetup should attend at 6pm for pizza and drinks. The talk will
be from 6.30pm. Doors will be locked from 6.30pm. \n\n **If tickets are so
ld out please do not attend as you will be refused entry without a ticket.
** \n\n Our booking system is provided by Tito. Their platform is integra
ted with payment processing by Stripe Please note that if the booking syst
em asks for a credit card\, it means credit OR DEBIT card. \n\n Young Code
