DESCRIPTION: Unfortunately we have had to postpone this talk. We hope to re
schedule it for September or October. \n\n Why Data Engineering is the Im
perative Foundation for Data Science - Harris Asad\n \n\n Data engineering
serves as the essential foundation upon which the field of data science r
elies heavily. It involves tasks such as collecting\, storing\, and transf
orming raw data into a format that can be easily analysed. By establishing
robust data pipelines\, ensuring data quality\, and optimizing database p
erformance\, data engineers enable data scientists and other downstream da
ta consumers to focus on interpreting and extracting valuable insights fro
m the data. \n\nData engineering encompasses the majority of what data pro
fessionals find themselves spending the most time on and that is data clea
ning and transformation. Data engineers remove inconsistencies\, handle mi
ssing values\, and normalize data to maintain data integrity. Therefore\,
it is extremely important for any modern business which is just starting
their journey to make more data-driven decisions to prioritize data engine
ering first. \n\n \nBio: Harris is currently working as a data science en
gineer in Harbour Energy\, where he helps the company to set up and mainta
in a scalable data infrastructure for all analytics\, data science and mac
hine learning workloads. Most of his three years of experience has revolve
d around consulting energy companies on how to be more data-driven by usin
g resources in either cloud environments or using on-prem/open-source solu
tions. \n\n Harris graduated with an MSc in Statistical Data Science from
the University of Kent where he was a Bestway Foundation Scholar. He also
holds a BSc in Mechanical Engineering from Pakistan Institute of Engineer
ing and Applied Sciences (PIEAS). \n\n -----------------------------------
 --------------------------------- \n\n \nThis event is orgnanised by a ch
arity - Code The City. We are grateful to ScotlandIS for their generous sp
onsorship of the Aberdeen Data Meet-ups from June 2023 onwards. \n\n CTC s
uggests a small donation to help with charity admin costs\, but if this is
a barrier please just change the ticket price to what you can afford. \n\
n We're now back to running physical events (with an online option via Zoo
m). \n\n If you select a physical ticket and it happens that we can not me
et physically you will have to attend the Zoom session. If you choose a ph
ysical ticket and it goes ahead you will have to comply with any condition
s of attendance (eg masks or social distancing) that the venue operators d
emand at the time. \n\n Those attending the physical space meetup should a
ttend at 6pm for pizza and drinks. The talk will be from 6.30pm. Doors wil
l be locked from 6.30pm. \n\n **If tickets are sold out please do not atte
nd as you will be refused entry without a ticket. ** \n\n Our booking syst
em is provided by Tito. Their platform is integrated with payment processi
ng by Stripe Please note that if the booking system asks for a credit card
\, it means credit OR DEBIT card. \n
