DESCRIPTION: Join business leaders and community advocates to explore the r
ole of business in driving social mobility\, through education. \n\n \n\n
Social mobility refers to changes in a person’s socio-economic situation
\, either in relation to their parents or throughout their lifetime. \n\n
A person’s social background can limit their work opportunities\, which
is further compounded by factors such as race\, gender\, age\, and locatio
 n. \n\n One in four children in Northern Ireland live in poverty\, (Joseph
Rowntree Foundation\, 2025) and this has a profound impact on their educa
tional outcomes and future life chances. \n\n The determinants of social m
obility are complex\, but businesses in Northern Ireland have a role to pl
ay in creating opportunities for all to change their socio-economic situat
ion for the better. Many are already taking action to positively impact th
eir communities\, through education. \n\n Tackling these challenges requir
es collaborative thinking and action across sectors. \n\n \n\n Delivered i
n partnership with Derry &amp\; Strabane District Council\, this event tak
es place on Wednesday 18 June\, 10:00 am – 1:00 pm at The Guildhall\, De
rry~Londonderry and invites business leaders and community advocates to ex
plore the role of business in driving social mobility. \n\n Attendees will
gain insight into innovative strategies that can drive social mobility an
d hear from businesses already taking action and collaborating to create m
eaningful change in schools\, communities and workplaces. \n\n This event
is free to attend and open to members and non-members of Business in the C
ommunity. \n\n Refreshments and a light lunch will be provided during netw
orking\, both before and after the agenda items. \n\n Agenda: \n\n • Net
