DESCRIPTION: Bitlink is on the road and coming to you! \n\n We are hosting
FREE technology workshops at Westbury Library this July holidays for yout
 h aged 9 - 16 years old.\nThese workshops are a part of our 2025 Bitlink B
ytes Regional Roadshow\, which will take the Bitlink team all across Tasma
nia!\nWe are running these FREE technology workshops with thanks to a rece
nt STEM education grant and will set our sights on a different regional ar
ea in Tasmania\, for every coming school holiday period. \n\n The second a
rea we're visiting is North and North East Tasmania! \n\n On Monday July 1
 4th we will be at:\nWestbury Library\n(33 William St\, Westbury TAS 7303)\
nfrom 12pm - 5pm \n\n We will be running the following sessions: \n\n Sess
 ion 1: 12pm - 2pm\nMama Dino (9 - 12yr olds)\nCode your own video game in
MakeCode Arcade! Help Mama Dino save her babies from traffic and other obs
tacles! Once you're done we will show you how you can customise your game
to make it more unique. Come along and make your own 2D video game to shar
 e with your friends and family! \n\n Session 2: 3pm - 5pm\nMicro:bit Maker
 s (9 - 16yr olds)\nLearn to code with the BBC micro:bit! Use block-based c
oding to create: animations using LEDs\, chiptune melodies and songs\, and
send messages to others via radio waves! Code\, assemble and test your ow
 n step counter and much more! \n\n \n\n \n \n \nParents/guardians are wel
come to stay for the sessions\, and it is recommended for\npersons under 9
\, that a parental figure sits with them to help with reading and\ncompreh
ension. \n\n By purchasing a ticket to this session\, you are giving permi
ssion for your participant to be supervised by Bitlink staff members. Part
icipants arriving without a ticket booking will need to provide a parent/g
uardian contact number for the Bitlink team to phone and get verbal approv
al from before entering the session. \n\n These sessions are also supporte
d by Children's University and so please bring along your passports and ga
in some additional hours and some special stickers for your passport! \n\n
All sessions are designed as introductory sessions. If your child has wor
ked with technology before then we will mentor them on how they can go tha
t little bit further and create something new. \n\n Parents/Guardians are
welcome to sit in on these sessions. If you choose to do this\, please do
not book a ticket for yourself (parents/guardians can attend without a tic
ket). \n\n These sessions are popular and the tickets are free. We often e
xhaust our full ticket allocation and have people on a waiting list. \n\n
If you have booked a ticket and are no longer able to attend that session\
, please email Troy at troy@bitlink.com.au to let us know\, so that we can
pass that ticket on to another attendee. \n\n This project received grant
funding from the Australian Government.\nThis project is also supported b
y Libraries Tasmania\, the Tasmanian Government and Children's University.
