 eaker Presentations on 25thJune 2026 \n\n Professor Shivaun Quinlivan will
  focus on the broad international and national legal context for mediation
  in education with some examples where mediation in education has worked p
 articularly well\, and perhaps less successfully (learnings arising etc). 
 \n\n  \nDr Aisling Parkes will focus on the voice of the child/young perso
 n in mediation in\neducation\, rationale\, and examples of where mediation
  in educational contexts involving an authentic voice for the child/young 
 person has worked well/not so well (learnings arising etc). \n\n  \nSpeake
 r Biographies \n\n Professor Shivaun Quinlivan is a Professor in Law. She 
 specialises in equality law\, education law and constitutional law\, and h
 er research focuses on gender and disability discrimination\, with a parti
 cular emphasis on educational equality. Prof. Quinlivan’s research is so
 cio‐legal and considers law as it functions in society. Her work focuses
  on law in context\, examining the impact of law within broader political\
 , social and organisational settings. She is an active member of the Berke
 ley Center on Comparative Equality and Anti‐Discrimination Law\, where s
 he is part of the Disability Rights Working Group. Her pedagogical researc
 h addresses equality\, diversity and inclusion in higher education. She ha
 s co‐led several funded research projects on inclusive learning\, one of
  which received a SATLE Impact Award from the Higher Education Authority i
 n 2024.\nThese national awards recognise excellence and impact in teaching
  and learning\nenhancement\, including digital transformation\, academic i
 ntegrity and education for sustainable development. \n\n  \nDr. Aisling Pa
 rkes (BCL\, LLM\, PHD\, MATHLE\, BAP\, MA (Coaching Psychology)) is a seni
 or academic at the School of Law\, University College Cork and an internat
 ionally\nrecognised expert in children’s rights. Aisling trained as a me
 diator in 2013\, and has since undertaken specialised qualifications in ch
 ild‑inclusive mediation and meeting with children. Aisling’s interdisc
 iplinary expertise is in the areas of children’s rights and child law. H
 er research seeks to bridge the gap between law and practice\, contributin
 g to professional training and national and international initiatives aime
 d at embedding children’s voices in mediation processes. Aisling led UCC
 ’s LLM (ADR) as Programme Director for the last number of years and\, as
  part of that programme\, has developed and taught modules in child-inclus
 ive mediation and children’s rights. Dr Parkes was recently appointed by
  the Minister for Children\, Disability and Equality\, Norma Foley to the 
 role of\nSpecial Rapporteur on Child Protection for a 2-year term. \n\n  \
 n \nNext GEMME Event: Mediation in special education/disability context wi
 ll be explored at a GEMME event in November. \n\n  \nRegistration (for all
  attendees) will be required in advance. Attendees have the option of\natt
 ending in-person or joining online. Registration is managed by the Bar of
