DESCRIPTION: To make the most of 6G\, we need to design it wisely\, maximiz
ing its benefits while minimizing potential risks. By prioritizing thought
ful implementation and anticipating potential drawbacks\, we can harness 6
G’s potential while keeping people and the planet at the heart of next-g
eneration mobile technology. \nThe workshop will work with the 6G4Society
Citizen Survey\, a unique opportunity for citizens to share their experie
nces and opinions about current 5G technology and the upcoming transition
to 6G. This survey is designed to capture a wide range of insights\, from
your everyday use of wireless technology to your thoughts on its future im
pact.\nImme Ruarus (Waag Society) will talk about the recent research on 5
G scenarios. The Imagining Public Connectivity project is a subproject of
Quality of Life in Smart Urban Spaces. In "Quality of Life in Smart Urban
Spaces\," Rotterdam University of Applied Sciences\, Waag Futurelab\, Font
ys Eindhoven\, and Stadslab Eindhoven investigate how digitalization affec
ts the quality of urban life. The public stack serves as a guide for mappi
ng the different layers of technology (foundation\, design process\, techn
ology\, and citizen perspective). \nWhat did 5G generate in terms of soci
al response? 6G4Society brings a controversy analysis to better understand
  awareness\, acceptance and adoption. \n\n Workshop Objectives \n\n \n
Investigate the public’s level of understanding of complex technologies
  (e.g. 5G and 6G) \n Discuss public apprehension or concern (doubts\, unce
rtainties\, fears and misconceptions) \n Build relationships across the mu
ltiple stakeholders (incl. policy makers\, industry\, telco developers) \n
Take seriously and explore tensions\, dissent\, friction\, misunderstandi
ng (incl. dissent within the scientific community)\, misapprehension\, inf
 ormative asymmetry\, misconception. \n \n\n Target Stakeholders \n\n \
n European Telecommunications Industry: Operators\, vendors\, and service
providers interested in European sustainability initiatives \n Researchers
and project coordinators in Horizon Europe\, SNS JU\, or other European p
rograms focused on sustainable telecommunications. \n National authorities
\, standards organizations\, and policy makers shaping telecommunications
regulation. \n Social movements focusing on sustainability and equal acces
 s \n City officials deploying 5 and 6G in the future \n Startups\, SMEs\,
and innovation agencies leveraging European initiatives for sustainable ne
twork technology development. \n \n\n Sessions focus \n\n Open discuss
ion: How can we involve citizens in project ideas and community projects?
Europe leads global sustainable telecommunications through major initiativ
es including Horizon Europe\, Digital Europe Programme\, and Smart Network
s and Services Joint Undertaking (SNS JU). What are the grassroots counter
parts and social movements it can align with? \n\n Anticipated Outcomes
\n\n \n Lessons learned from the Citizen Survey and gathering input from
participants \n Understand the roles of social movements in deploying new
technologies \n Introduce 6G narratives that help shape an ecosystem \n D
iscover how Europe is scaling up efforts through new programmes on 6G \n
\n\n Date and Time \n\n Organised by 6G4Society and Waag Society \nWhe
 n: Saturday September 27 from 15:00 to 18:00 \nWhere: Makers Guild\, Waag
  Society\, Amsterdam \n
